“Two years ago I would not have been able to speak English without my husband’s support. After joining Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford (LVGH) I feel confident to go out with my children. It changed my life. Now I feel very comfortable to speak in English.”
I try so hard to help my children with their homework. I feel frustrated at times… if you speak a different language than your kids, it’s hard to tell them stories from your childhood, read books every night before they go to sleep, to have a good life or have the best relationship with them. When I talk better at home, my children say, ‘Bravo, mom! You are better!’ I want to be the model mom for them. I want to be a lighthouse for my children. Every time I come to LVGH, I open one of the lights on my house. My lighthouse is becoming stronger and stronger every time I come here!
