Success Story
Daniel
Martinez
Daniel
Martinez has lived in the United States
for five years, a marked difference from
his youth spent in Lima, Peru. He
describes Lima as “a place teeming
with gun violence where corruption runs
rampant.” When his career as a clothes-maker
came to an end, he looked to Connecticut
as fresh, new ground.
Quickly
enamored by the new American culture, Daniel
wasted no time devising ways to carve out
a successful life here in the United States. Unable
to speak English, he found several jobs
as a line chef in restaurants in the Greater
Hartford area. Daniel found a wonderful
opportunity to practice his cooking skills
and interact with throngs of coworkers
in a language he was slowly picking up.
Then
he found LVGH and became determined to
learn the language of his new country. LVGH
has helped him develop the language skills
he will need to pass the American Citizenship
test, the first step in his journey to
start his own restaurant. With a
keen appreciation of the forces that have
made his life so rewarding, Daniel plans
to help other immigrants adapt to the overwhelming
conditions of a new country and a new language.
