The web resources below can be used by students to practice skills outside of class, or can be used by tutors as activities with their classes in the computer lab or on laptops in the classroom.

Computer Skills/Literacy

Digital Learn – A variety of computer tutorials consisting of videos and short activities.

GCF Learn Free – Lots of helpful tutorials in technology, Microsoft Office, reading, math, everyday life, and many more!

Mousercise – Simple mouse exercises, perfect for a beginner.

Northstar Digital Literacy – Digital Literacy assessments offered in English and Spanish.

Place Mouse – Practice basic mouse skills, moving, clicking, etc.

Typing Club – Learn keyboarding skills here.

Resources for All Students

Activities for ESL Students – Not only for the ESOL student.  Excellent grammar and vocabulary exercises plus quizzes.

English Maven – Practice verb tenses, sentence structure and completion, spelling, and much more!

Funbrain – Classic games – Plural Girls, Grammar Gorillas and Word Confusion.  Always a favorite.

Grammar Blast – Interactive games for learning grammar, capitalization and punctuation.

John MH – Adult and Family Education – Activities include a listening component in a variety of life skill areas including shopping, jobs, health, housing, transportation.  Follows CASAS competencies.

Learning Chocolate – Vocabulary practice with repetition, matching, and dictation.

LiteracyCenter.net – Games with sound that teach shapes, colors, letters, numbers and keyboarding.  Great for the lowest level students.

Rewordify – Simplifies difficult text to help with vocabulary and reading comprehension.

Road to Grammar – Site is packed with interactive grammar quizzes, practice games for use on a computer.  Also included are downloads for the classroom  including warm up activities and conversation starters.

Seminole State College – Great site to prep for CASAS with listening and reading practice tests! (Must have PowerPoint for some activities).

Starfall.com – Exercises for the newest readers:  alphabet, phonics, basic reading.

ESOL Students

CIWA– Free health literacy resources and videos to help people navigate the healthcare system better, reduce the barriers to accessing services and improve health literacy outcomes.

Dave’s ESL Cafe – Activities to help with conversational language, confusing words, slang or other hard to find activities.

Duolingo – Can be used on a computer or through a smartphone app.  Great for students to go at their own pace and tutors can track progress.

English Club – Interactive lessons for listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary building, grammar, and writing.  Spend five minutes or an hour here.

English Daily – Unique exercises you won’t find on another site.  Learn common sentences, common mistakes, idioms, and advertising lingo.  Find conversation practice here, too.

Five Minute English – Short and easy explanations and exercises on grammar, reading, vocabulary, listening, pronunciation, slang/idioms.

Internet Polyglot – You can set the site up in the users native language to help memorize words and their meanings in English.

LanguageGuide.org – Select your native language to learn English using pictures and sounds.  Contains intensive grammar section for Spanish speakers.

My English Lab – Extra resources for students who use the Future Textbooks.

New Tongue – Simple English reading and spelling exercises.

Pumarosa – ESOL website only for Spanish speakers.

Randall’s Cyber Listening Lab – Great site for listening exercises.  Printable scripts and quizzes to test comprehension.  For all levels.

Writing & Grammar for Advanced Students

English Grammar Secrets – The source for all things grammar.

English Grammar – English grammar exercises, lessons, videos, and PDF downloads for the classroom.  Sorted by category for easy access to grammar topics.

Literacy Education Online – Writing guide for higher level students.

Purdue Owl – Covers essay formatting and offers writing & grammar labs.

Write a Basic Essay – Essay writing help for advanced students.

Math Students

AAA Math – Wide range of interactive math lessons organized by subject/grade level.

Aplusmath – Improve math skills with games, flashcards and puzzles.  Printable worksheets for the classroom.

Khan Academy – Math lessons and practice problems by subject and grade level.  This site offers test prep and covers other subjects as well.

Kidport – IXL – Math exercises organized by grade/skill level.

GED Students

GED Testing Service – Practice tests and questions that are found on the GED.

GEDWriting.com! – Everything you need to study for the writing portion of the GED.  Also includes practice tests.

Math4GED – Math practice to help prepare for the GED test.

Citizenship Students

Test-Guide – Citizenship practice questions with explanations.

U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services – Prepare for the naturalization interview and test.

Social Services

2-1-1 Resources – Health and community services.

Healthcare Resources – Reduced cost of medical care and other resources.

Internet Essentials – Low-cost Internet service from Comcast for eligible households.
