Most of our volunteers serve as tutors teaching small groups (4 – 6 students) in English for Speakers of Other Languages, Basic Literacy, Math, Grammar, Writing, High School Completion Preparation, U.S. Citizenship, or Career Pathways.
The time commitment is 2-2 ½ hours per week (1 class session) for at least one term but preferably for one year. Placements are available during morning, afternoon or evening hours. A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and the ability to read, write, and speak clear and fluent English is required for this position.
Please see additional training requirements here.

Digital Literacy Volunteer
Work one-on-one or in small groups with our students, teaching basic computer skills, web-browsing and navigation, applying for jobs online, developing resumes, and other topics based on student interests. Help students use our educational software to practice their language skills.
All digital literacy volunteers complete a volunteer orientation and training (Details here). The time commitment is 2-2 ½ hours per week for at least one term. An IT/tech background is not required, but volunteers must have a solid understanding of basic computer/internet tasks. A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and the ability to read, write, and speak clear and fluent English is required for this position.
Childcare is now being offered for our ESOL students during classes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. In our designated childcare room and under the direction of our Childcare Coordinator, LVGH’s youngest students will play and explore while practicing the building blocks of literacy and English that will help them prepare for school. At the same time, their parents and guardians will be able to attend classes and improve their own literacy and English skills. The Childcare Coordinator will be supervising a group of volunteers and interns who will gain valuable practical experience that will make them more attractive to potential employers. The volunteer time commitment is 3 hours per week for at least one term. Participants will be subject to a background check and must meet with staff for a childcare orientation.
Special Projects & Fundraising
If tutoring isn’t your thing, consider lending your talents to special projects like communications, fundraising, photography, and special events. We do not have these kinds of opportunities all the time, but if you’re interested, please check with us and we’ll let you know what our needs are at that time.
Volunteer Opportunities for Groups
