Volunteers

When you volunteer with LVGH, you’ll change your students’ lives… and your own, too!

Whether you want to teach your own class, assist in the computer lab, or help out at one of our special events, the opportunities at LVGH offer something for just about everyone, and our staff is here to help match you with the right position.  Please fill out our volunteer application to get started today!

Tutor
Most of our volunteers serve as tutors teaching small groups (4 – 6 students) in English for Speakers of Other Languages, Basic Literacy, Math, Grammar, Writing, High School Completion Preparation, U.S. Citizenship, or Career Pathways.

The time commitment is 2-2 ½ hours per week (1 class session) for at least one term but preferably for one year.  Placements are available during morning, afternoon or evening hours.  A minimum of a high school diploma (or GED) and the ability to read, write, and speak clear and fluent English is required for this position.

For more information about tutoring with LVGH, please visit our Tutor Training page here.

Digital Literacy Volunteer
Work one-on-one or in small groups with our students, teaching basic computer skills, web-browsing and navigation, applying for jobs online, developing resumes, and other topics based on student interests. Help students use our educational software to practice their language skills.

All digital literacy volunteers complete a volunteer orientation and training.  Time commitment is 1 – 2 hours per week for at least one term. An IT/tech background is not required, but volunteers must have a solid understanding of basic computer/internet tasks.

Volunteer Opportunities for Groups
LVGH hosts many corporate and community groups for short-term or day-long projects.  These opportunities vary depending on our needs, your group’s availability and schedule, and the time of year.  If your group is interested in volunteering, please contact Rebecca Hawkins, Director of Programs, at rebecca.hawkins@lvgh.org or 860-233-3853 x 125.
