Darley

Darley left her home in Haiti in 2010, following the devastating earthquake. She moved to Mexico, where she attended school and became a nurse. She speaks Creole, French, Spanish and now, is working on her English.

Eventually, Darley and her family moved up to Connecticut. Shortly after her arrival. Darley gave birth to her daughter, Ruth. Darley was struggling to be home alone most days while her husband works, until her brother-in-law told her about LVGH. “He said it’s the best place to learn English, with very good teachers and nice people.”

LVGH also had something no other school could provide: a childcare room where Ruth could be cared for during class. Without it, Darley couldn’t attend school.

“Learning English is very important to me. I need to talk to my daughter’s doctors.  And I need to prepare for the exam so I can work as a nurse.”

Darley came to LVGH speaking only a few words in English. Within a few weeks, she had moved up two class levels. Now, she speaks to Ruth only in English. “I want her to grow up with the language of her country,” Darley said. “I love to learn, and I want my daughter to be a learner, too.”
